Project Story:

Switch House is a modern infill design for a Secondary Dwelling Unit situated along Government Alley in Midtown, Sacramento. The design is organized by alternating roof planes that respond to the scale of existing buildings on the alley and break down the building length. Alternating interior vaults create an interesting play of volume and delineate the open floor plan of the living space. An exterior composition of stucco, dark tropical hardwood, white concrete, weathering steel and metal roofs create an inviting exterior that enhances and responds to the context of the developing alley.

The project was designed to be used as a guest house for family visiting from abroad so the family could be together as their young children grow up.
